Accelerated aging test to evaluate of physiological potential in coriander seeds
Abstract
The vigor tests are essential in programs of quality control of seeds, and the accelerated aging test is one which can be used for this purpose. In this sense, this paper aimed to study the methodology of the accelerated aging test, in order to identify different levels of vigor seed lots of coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.). To do so, four cultivars (Português, Super Verdão, Taboca and Verdão), each represented by three lots of seeds, they were subjected to the following assessments: germination, first count of germination, seedling emergence, speed of emergency seedling height, dry mass of the aerial part of the of seedlings, accelerated aging by traditional procedures and saturated NaCl (38 and 41°C for 48, 72 and 96 hours) and moisture content at the beginning of the tests and, after incubation to accelerated aging test. The statistical design was completely randomized in a factorial 3 x 2 x 3 (lot x temperature x aging period), with four replications for each cultivar and test. The accelerated aging test at 41°C/48 hours (traditional procedure) and 41°C/72 hours (saturated NaCl) was sensitive to evaluated of physiological potential of coriander seeds.
