Marrons et réfugiés entre Guyane française et Brésil : nouvelles sources et nouvelles approches

Abstract

This article first considers the indepth research since 1960 on slave escapes between French Guiana and Brazil (Pará) and the enrichment of sources being used. It then shows the importance of the Jesuit and Spiritan missionaries whose position and role vis-à-vis the fugitives are reconsidered, as well as the influence of the “Portuguese refugees” on French Guiana.
