Abstract This 1.5-hour interactive workshop introduces first-year residents to brief clinical teaching and the giving of feedback. The workshop is held during new resident orientation and is the first in a series designed to enhance residents' teaching skills. Subsequent workshops reinforce this material and focus on other teaching skills. This workshop includes lesson plans, handouts, and slides, and can easily be adapted for use with faculty. Program evaluation results indicate that residents value the interactivity of the workshop, the opportunity to practice new skills, and the chance to work with residents from other specialties. The majority of residents rate their reaction to this workshop from “good” to “excellent.” All residents have a high level of involvement in teaching medical students, and this program provides early exposure to skills that house staff will need as senior residents. It is helpful to know that residents prefer activities, such as role-play, demonstration, games, and buzz groups, to even the most interactive lecture.
