Coated implants representing one of modern trends in implantology have been the subject of our investigation. After detailed technical tests of three different types of samples - titanium alloy TiAl6V4, titanium alloy covered with zirconium and titanium alloy covered with hydroxyapatite with a zirconium interlayer, the authors tested proliferation and metabolic activity of human embryonic lung fibroblasts in the neighborhood of the samples. In the Burker chamber the authors calculated the harvested cells and performed the MTT test. It has become obvious that the sample was not cytotoxic and the surface of the samples made cellular colonization possible.Pulse laser deposition appears to be a promising method in the area of coating the implants on the metal core and biological tests indicate that the coating from crystalline hydroxyapatite may improve biological properties of titanium coated with hydroxyapatite with an interlayer of zirconium.
