Although metallic objects belonging to the industrial heritage of Guyane have been protected as historic monuments, this statutory protection by no means guarantees their survival. British steam engines dating from the 1820s, 1970s sawing machines and distillation equipment for rosewood, a roasting machine, an 1850s dockside crane and a bucket dredger for gold prospecting… these are the objects of Guyane’s industrial heritage. They need a project such as the one now being launched by the municipal ecomuseum of Approuage-Kaw, at Regina, with the support of the regional cultural directorate.
