“Ma qui è ancora Pavia?” Creare comunità e cittadinanza attraverso il teatro e la cultura: un’indagine etnografica sul progetto di rigenerazione urbana a base culturale del Rione Scala di Pavia

Abstract

Is this still Pavia? Creating communities and citizenship through theatre and culture: an ethnographic survey on the culturally based urban regeneration project in the Scala district of Pavia ---------- My work is based on field research I did in a suburb of Pavia called Rione Scala, which is characterized by a sense of abandonment and decadence. In this neighbourhood there is a theatre little frequented by the locals and by the citizens of the town, on which the University of Pavia and the Municipality are developing a project of urban regeneration culturally based on cinema and drama. My study analyses the imagery of citizens and residents about the suburb and its theatre, investigating the reasons of its underuse and inquire the possibilities of a renaissance of the area starting right form its theatre, describing some processes activated by the regeneration project, also proposing an evaluation with qualitative tools.
