SERUM PROTEIN PROFILE, IN TELLICHERRY GOATS*

Abstract

A total of 150 Tellicherry goats and 44 nondescript goats were screened to study the influence of age, sex, breed, type of management, pregnancy and lactation on serum protein values. Adult goats possessed significantly higher values for total serum proteni and globulin when compared to growing young stock. Albumin content increased with advancement of age in growing animals and then declined to attain adult values. There was no influence for sex and type of management on serum protein values. Tellicherry breed exhibited significantly higher sawn protein values over non-descript goats. Pregnant goats possessed significantly lower values for total serum protein and albumin when compared to lactating and dry stock
