In 1996, during the excavation of the east sector of the monastic buildings of the Saint-Séverin abbey at Château-Landon the long forgotten chapter house was discovered. The building, erected during the 12th century A.D., adjoinded the primary Church. The eastern wing of the convent, wich included the chapter, was completely modified at the end of the Middle Ages, as the canon’s meeting place was transferred to the south wing of the monastery. The numerous medieval graves under the chapter house were henceforth protected from later upheaval. The excavation of the building and the study of the cemetery have brought together the dignitaires of this important abbey and the reformed regular chapters affiliation to Augustinian rule.
