The itinerary of an atlas and the Descriptive Geometry of the city
Abstract
This essay, meaning construction in the sense of geometrical process and constructed object, refers to the preparation of an atlas documenting the architecture of the twentieth century in large territories. The purpose is to demonstrate how descriptive geometry becomes an instrument of morphological analysis of the architecture of the city (as a network of spatial end genealogical relationships), trying to describe the architectural form (and its values) in the dynamic processes of territorial settlement. It is therefore proposed an operational notion of form that is articulated on multiple immanent levels, from the most abstract and profound to the most superficial and iconic.
