This work tested the operational performance of the fruit fly algorithm (FFA) optimized proportional-integral plus double derivative (PIDD) controller for the dynamic stability of the electrical system. For this, a widely operated interconnected power system (IPS) model in the literature is considered, and the analysis for 10% step load disturbance (SLD) is performed. The optimization of PIDD using FFA is performed by taking the time domain indices of integral square error (ISE). The performance efficacy of the PIDD is demonstrated with the performances of other controllers. Later, the investigative IPS model is incorporated with the high voltage direct current line (HVDC) as a tie-line, and the comparative analysis of the simulation results confirmed the improvement in the electrical system's dynamical behavior with the HVDC line. Further, the sensitivity test is conducted and validates the control approach of PIDD-based FFA and the consideration of the HVDC line.
