Given the fast-growing elderly populations and the importance of the elderly’s well- being, it is of high importance to pay attention to factors relating to older people’s well-being. So, the present study was aimed at testing the psychosocial model of older people’s well-being in which the effect of hope and sense of coherence on the psychological well-being of older people with the mediating role of attitude toward death was examined. The present study has a descriptive-correlational design for modeling. The statistical population included all community-living older adults in Tehran. For this purpose, a total of 309 older people were selected from all Tehran districts, using the Cluster sampling method. The participants completed the following scales: Snyder’ Hope Scale, Antonovsky's Sense of coherence scale, The Death Attitude Profile- Revised (DAP-R), and The Ryff’s scale of Psychological well-being. Data Analyze through Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) (SPSS-22 and Lisrel 8.8). The results indicated that there are significant positive relationships between hope and death avoidance, hope and approach acceptance and approach acceptance with psychological well-being, and significant reverse relationships between sense of coherence and fear of death, sense of coherence and approach acceptance, sense of coherence and escape acceptance, and fear of death and escape acceptance with Psychological well-being. A sense of coherence led to psychological well-being with the mediating role of fear of death and escape acceptance. It can be concluded that to improve older people’s well-being, more attention should be paid to their attitude toward death and the factors influencing it.
