State capability is the main feature of internal nature of a particular society that determines the position of the state in a world "ranking list". State capability depends on a set of social, economic, demographic, ethnic, cultural and military factors as well as the government administrative machinery that are also considered to be the key indicators of state capability. This article deals with the analysis and evaluation of state capability of the modern Ukraine and focuses on the statistical (secondary) data. At the same time the interpretation of data is based on the traditional analysis of sources and documents. A particular attention is paid to the study of ethnic and political as well as ethnic and cultural cleavages; the interaction between the Ukrainian government and business; the institutionalization of formal and informal practices; the nature of Ukraine's ruling class and its cooperation with external actors; and the prospects of national integration and conflict resolution.
