Activated Coconut Charcoal as a super adsorbent for the removal of organophosphorous pesticide monocrotophos from water
Abstract
The detrimental consequences of pesticide residues in water are a key concern to be addressed. In this work, we report the adsorptive removal of an organophosphorus pesticide monocrotophos onto Activated Coconut Charcoal (AcCoC) as the adsorbent. This adsorbent showed good ability to remove monocrotophos from water at pH 7.0 with a high Langmuir adsorption capacity of 103.9 mg g−1. The residual pesticide concentrations in water after adsorption were quantified using triple quadrupole LC-MS spectrometry. This super adsorbent proved its capacity to detoxify monocrotophos in samples of farm water from agricultural soils.
