Arthrodesis for habitual dorsal dislocation of the thumb metacarpophalangeal joint- A case report
Abstract
Background: Habitual dislocation of the thumb metacarpophalangeal (MCP) is rare. It may be associated with hypermobility syndromes. Therapy, splints, and activity modifications have been the mainstay of treatment. Case details: The author reports a recurrent habitual dorsal dislocation of the left thumb MCP joint in an 18-year-old boy with restriction of daily activities, treated with arthrodesis. Conclusions: This case demonstrates that arthrodesis is a suitable and reliable procedure for habitual MCP dislocations of the thumb.
