Familles lao à Saint-Claude (Jura) dans les années 1990. Abondance des emplois et subordination dans le travail
Abstract
This article describes the living and working conditions of Lao male and female workers who moved to the small industrial and cosmopolitan town of Saint-Claude in the Jura region, where jobs are plentiful. Based on ethnographic work, it aims to understand the socio-economic integration of these men and women who came to live in Saint-Claude primarily 'for the work'. The questions raised are at the crossroads of the sociology of work and the sociology of ethnic relations. How does this refugee population from South-East Asia experience this working life, at the factory or at home ? Most of them used to belong to the working classes in their country, before having to flee and leave their country. Is there, in this small town, a process of proletarianisation?
