FCJ-125 From Representation to Sensation: The Transduction of Images in John F. Simon Jr.’s ‘Every Icon’
Abstract
John F. Simon Jr’s Every Icon (1997) is a work that moves from science to art. This paper discusses Every Icon’s mathematical foundation and explains how it transductively shifts from the workings of a system of coordinates to the becoming of an aesthetic composition. This paper also traces the way in which Simon, through his proposition of showing every icon, moves through a complex system of coordinates to enabling the emergence of an aesthetic composition.
