Examination of Complaints of the Individuals that Suffer from Sleep Disorder and Situations that Affect the Sleep

Aim: The purpose of this research is to determine complaints of people that suffer from sleep disorder and situations that affect the sleep. Method: Data of the research were collected retrospectively from the Sleep Disorders Unit archive of a university hospital. The data were obtained retrospectively from 313 files of inpatients who applied to this unit for treatment between 01.09.2011-01.01.2013. A data collecting form that was developed by using the information existing in the ‘’Sleep Questionnaire Form’’ of the sleeping disorders unit of the hospital, was used. Percentage calculations were made in the evaluation of the data. Results: It has been stated that 59.1% of patients are males and 42.8% of them have severely sleep disorder. It has been identified that 62.9% of individuals that have sleep disorder suffer from passing into sleep, 73.8% have frequent waking at night, 61.7% have difficulty in sleeping again, 82.4% snore in sleep, 85.9% have frequent rotation in bed, 78% have weight problem,82.4% have headache, 69.3% have dry mouth, 87.2% feel extremely tired in the morning, 73.8% get angry quickly, 48.9% have sexual problems. Also, it has been determined that 40.6% of patients smoke, 16.6% use alcohol,67.4% consume more than eight cups of tea. Conclusion: It was concluded that the patients with sleeping disorder problem mostly complain about snoring, waking up frequently at night, turning in bed frequently during sleep, feeling exhausted during day and getting angry suddenly; nearly half of them have severe degree of sleeping disorder, smoke and a are obese.
