Sociology risking history: A few remarks on sociohistorical approaches

Abstract

Sociologicalworks are most of the times based on whatwecould call « classical » methods : interviews, direct observation, etc. Only a few choose to rely on historical investigations. This article willneverthelesstry to show 1) thathistory and sociology are two disciplines thatshare the sameepistemological basis, 2) thathistorycanbe of use to the sociologist and shade a new light on someproblems of our time, and 3) thathecanlegitimately, under certain conditions, investigate on a "paperfield".
