THE IMPACT OF STRUCTURAL-PETROGRAPHIC, HYDRODYNAMIC AND OTHER FACTORS ON ROCK WEATHERING IN THE FOUNDATION OF THE DUBROVNIK RAMPARTS
Abstract
Resistivity, stability and durability of the rock mass in the foundation of the Dubrovnik ramparts have been studied in the conditions effected by different factors, especially by abrasion, erosion and corrosion of sea water. Individually treated and established different factors are presented according to the intensity of their action. Intensive action of sea waves (compression shock), the pressure of crystalization salts (NaCl). contraction and extension of calcite, vapour pressures in the pore space and chemo-corrosive influence of sea water need to be particularly discussed. Complex and cyclic repetition of these processes occurs in multiple tectonized and cataclysed slructural-petrographic fabric. Differential and progressive effect of individual processes is only a part of complex conditions under which the mentioned rocks become weak, weathered and desintegrated (the paper is published in Croatian).
