The use of meristems for the in vitro establishment of Colocasia esculenta (L.) Schott cv. 'INIVIT MC-2012' decreases bacterial contamination but is required to increase its growth. The objective of this work was to determine the effect of 6-Benzylaminopurine and indoleacetic acid on its in vitro establishment. Various concentrations of the two growth regulators were included in the culture medium and with the best combination the explants were cultured in shaking and static liquid culture medium. With the use of the culture medium constituted by 80% of the salts and vitamins MS, 30 g l-1 sucrose, 0.1 g l-1 myo-inositol, 0.1 mg l-1 6-BAP, 0.05 mg l-1 of AIA and culture in agitation were obtained meristems with the appropriate morphological characteristics to transfer to the multiplication phase at 28 days of culture.
