TRACING ACTIVITY ENGINE FOR LEARNING WRITING THE JAWI CHARACTER
Abstract
Jawi script was first introduced to Malay community in the 14th century. However, nowadays there are many young generations who are not able to master Jawi script. Jawi is the core of Pendidikan Islam subject, thus, students need to master Jawi script, both writing and reading, in order to facilitate the learning of the subject. The problem of mastering Jawi writing among children starts from the formation of the Jawi characters. Students need to be able to trace the characters first in order to strengthen the formation of Jawi characters. Characters tracing is one of the initial activities for children in the process of learning to write Jawi characters. The activity uses a digital technology with real-time feedback. It is one of the new technologies in the process of learning to write Jawi. Tracing on the tablet using a stylus pen serves as an input. This study aims to develop a tracing engine to provide feedback on the accuracy of users' tracing activity. The accuracy of tracing activity feedback is assessed using the comparative analysis method by looking at the score agreement between the feedback from the tracing engine and from the experts. The Krippendorff Alpha (Krippendorff a) Reliability Coefficient Index score is used to assess the agreement between the feedback from the tracing engine and from the experts. The result of Krippendorff a agreement score assessment found that the accuracy of the feedback from the tracing engine is almost similar to the feedback provided by the experts.
