The article presents the results of a qualitative investigation carried out during the first lock down in Chile in 2020, in which 26 people of different social characteristics were interviewed at three different moments of the period (counting over 70 interviews). The analysis of this corpus contrasts the techno-expert rationality on which the lock own strategy is based and which reduces socials temporalities to an objective, standard and measurable time, with the singularized experiences of social time experienced by individuals in Chile. These experiences were shaped by the social properties of the individuals and their environment. Thus, three main social conditions have been identified - social position, activities (work, care, studies) and stages of the life cycle)- whose interaction gives rise to three modalities of temporalization of the experience: the experience of suspended time, the experience of demanding time, and the experience of reinvested time. While each experience may provide a fixed representation of social temporalities at the lock down, the article proposes the idea of individuals transitioning between experiences as confinement and social factors change.
