The article deals with the main problems of the economy of the Russian Federation, which since the beginning of the 1990s has not yet received its full resolution. The authors emphasize that the Russian economy has a high potential for further development. Since the economy is closely connected with the social sphere and largely depends on the level of economic development of the country, the social problems concerning each member of society come to the fore. One of the most important problems in the Russian Federation is the problem of consumption of goods and services by the population. Analyzing the dynamics of population expenditures, the dynamics of growth / decrease of population savings, consumption of basic food products, the authors conclude that the main share of expenses of citizens of the Russian Federation is associated with the costs of the purchase of essential goods, which is a sign of insufficient solvency of citizens.
