Investigation of perception of seclusion room in nursing staff of Shahid Beheshti psychiatry hospital
Abstract
Seclusion is a treatment method which is used in different occasions by the nurses who work in psychiatric wards.early intervention and prevention of maladaptive behaviour requires skilled nursing techniques.the mental health nurses must be able to recognize signs of aggressive behaviour and intervene appropriately.since the improper understanding of this method of treatment will lead to the inappropriate use and lack of caring standards,and the recognition area of this treatment consists of knowledge,perception and application,this research was done to study the nursing staff perception of seclusion room in Shahid Beheshti psychiatry hospital.this research included all of the nursing staff (60 subjects) in the psychiatric hospital.in order to gather the data,a questionnaire was prepared and organized on the basis of documented sources:and to analyze the data:the descriptive statistics mean standard,deviation pearson,s correlation factor,point bicereal correlation factor and uni-variable(regression) were used.the results showed that 81.1% of nursing staff had proper perception,and 18.4 had moderate perception of seclusion room.however based on demographic variables,it showed a weak positive correlation(r=0.13) of nursing staff perception of seclusion room mainly according to the record variable of services in psychiatry.also a weak positive correlation existed (r=0.26) between the degree of the perceotion in nurses with bachelor,s degree who had services in psychiatry department.the results indicated that with increasing work experience in psychiatry and higher educational level,there is a better understanding in perception of the seclusion room.this study indicated the necessity of educational programs about the application of seclusion room especially among nurses with lower educational background.
