From an analysis of Leonardo, a morally dubious galán character that is nevertheless rewarded at the end of the play by a happy ending, the author of this article puts into question the idea of poetic justice. The importance of morally based critical perspectives is minimized and an attempt is made to sustain that the only just ending in a Lopean comedia is one that corresponds to the expectations objectively created by the playwright in the public’s mind.
