Burns constitute some of the most frequent causes of accidents and they are far-reaching and grave medical, surgical, psychological and social circumstances, with vital risk and potentially disabling. The essential therapeutic objectives are survival, prevention of acute-phase complications, preservation of the functions of the affected segments, an acceptable cosmetic result, as well as limiting the psychological consequences, in order to ensure a fast and high-quality social reintegration for the patient. Therefore, burn centres have emerged, which have developed, over time, specific strategies and abilities, aimed to ensure a maximum survival rate and the highest quality of life for burn victims.
