The purpose of the scientific research is the systematization of indicators to assess the ability of the regions of Ukraine to the effective formation of the knowledge economy (hereinafter - КE). To achieve this goal, methods of systemic approaches and logical generalization were used. The result of scientific research is the justification and systematization of indicators, on the basis of which it is advisable to analyze the economic potential of the regions of Ukraine to form the КE, which implies the sufficiency of the information base for the quality implementation of this procedure and the search for additional sources of information to determine the state of the country's level of preparedness for knowledge development. The scientific novelty of the study is to improve the criteria base for the diagnosis of the region’s potential for the formation of КE, which is systematized on the basis of its components. The practical relevance of the study is determined by the further development of information support for assessing the formation of КE in the regions of Ukraine. The data of special statistical forms of reporting by economic entities, educational institutions and science are analyzed. At the same time, it was revealed that the information base was insufficient and incomplete, which made it difficult to objectively identify the existing trends of knowledge development of a certain territory. Indicators have been systematized to assess the ability of Ukrainian regions to produce a knowledge economy on the basis of the accentuation of groups of indicators on the criteria of innovation, the degree of use of information and communication technologies, the level of development of science and high-tech industries, education of children, young people and adults.
