The relationship between subjective perceptions of the economic standard of living and the adoption of modern energies has scarcely been explored in Sub-Saharan Africa. This article aims to fill this gap by highlighting the economic-subjective factors likely to boost the adoption of butane gas in Cameroon’s urban Sahel. The methodological approach uses secondary data collected in the ECAM-4 database and econometric analyses based on discrete choice models. The results suggest that the action that seems relevant and is likely to constitute an effective lever for the adoption of butane gas is the improvement of the economic situation of poor urban households that are unable to have steady incomes.
