La General estoria y la materia antigua en la corte de Alfonso XI: el manuscrito BNE 10 237 (K)

Abstract

Manuscript BNE 10237, also known as K, copies the first half of the General estoria’s Second Part. So far, scholars have paid attention to this codex because it contains a version of the text that preceded the final revision, during which some passages were censored. This article examines K’s material and paratextual features, focusing on its mise en page, as well as on the selective table of contents at the beginning of the volume, related to episodes of Gentile history. Drawing from our analysis of these features, we argue that this manuscript was created at Alfonso XI’s court, during a period of special interest in ancient, pagan history.
