Intra oral lipoma: Report of 3 histologically different cases

Abstract

Lipomas are very common benign slow-growing soft tissue neoplasms composed of mature adipose tissue mostly diagnosed in the fifth decade of life. The most common sites of involvement are the buccal mucosa, tongue, and floor of the mouth with typical presentation of an asymptomatic, soft, smooth-surfaced, nodular and yellowish mass. These tumors rarely present in the oral cavity, representing approximately 4,4% of all benign mouth tumors. They are usually less than 2cm in size and the etiology remains unclear.This report presents 3 clinical cases of oral lipomas, with almost similar clinical presentations, with no complaints of pain, and in whom the treatment was the same: excisional biopsy. None of these patients reported a recurrence.However, despite the similarity of the clinical features of the tumor in the 4 patients, their histology was completely different.
