Progress on nanomaterials based-signal amplification strategies for the detection of zearalenone
Abstract
Zearalenone (ZEN) was a toxic compound secreted by the metabolism of fungi that exerted negative influence over human and animal health due to its carcinogenicity, mutagenicity, genotoxicity, nephrotoxicity, immunotoxicity and teratogenicity. The superiority of biosensors was recognized which held a great potential for ZEN detection because they were less costly and much friendlier in preparation and operation steps but further sensitive, specific, rapid, and portable. This review was designed to pose a comprehensive interpretation on ZEN detected biosensors through highlighting the nanomaterials for fabricating the sensing elements and their applications in assorted read-out types of biosensors. Besides, novel nanomaterials-based signal amplification strategies utilized to accomplish this goal were overviewed and analyzed in detail. Current challenges and future perspectives were discussed as well.
