Nasal septal perforations cause a significant number and magnitude of symptoms in patients and constitute a serious challenge to otorhinolaryngologists. Numerous surgical methods have been described for the repair and closure of perforations. Closure of the perforation with upper lateral cartilage mucoperichondrial flap is described as an alternative surgical technique and results are discussed in this study. Twelve patients with nasal septal perforations sizes ranging from 5 to 30 mm were treated with the described surgical method. Complete closure of the perforation was achieved in 11 patients after a mean follow-up of 6.9 months. There were no significant donor site problems. In the light of the encouraging results, upper lateral cartilage mucoperichondrial flap can be suggested as a viable alternative surgical technique for closure of nasal septal perforations.
