A serological survey on PPR was carried out on a sample of 2144 small ruminants sera collected from 42 herds in the nine departments of the Soum province located in the north of Burkina Faso. The overall serological PPR prevalence estimated by c-ELISA was 28.90%. The study showed that the prevalence varied between departments. It was higher in animals over three years of age than in younger ones (p = 0.042), in sheep (33.09%) than in goats (23.01%), and in females than in males (p = 0.000). The survey showed that the PPR virus was actually circulating in Soum province. Therefore control measures through vaccination should be undertaken against this disease.
