Article Highlights A biochar aerogel decorated with Ru/RuS2 particles was synthesized successfully. Plenty of defects at carbon were formed due to regulation of two kinds of biomass. The sample required a low overpotential of 228 mV at 10 mA cm−2 in 0.5 M H2SO4. The unique 2D/3D microstructures in biochar aerogel enhanced mass transfer ability.
