"É a partir dessa sementinha que nós vamos avançando." The agroecological practices of the peasant women’s movement in Santa Catarina (MMV/SC)
Abstract
The paper is based on a collaborative ethnography conducted with the Peasant Women Movement (MMC/SC) in Santa Catarina state, from 2011, and aims to delineate the political and pedagogical characteristics of the agroecological perspective embodied by the movement, in synergy with other Via Campesina organizations. The data were collected through narrative interviews, participant observation, focus group, documentation analysis and restitution activities. First, the struggle for agroecology is contextualized within the trajectory of the MMC/SC. Then the text focuses on the agroecological practices of the movement, with special reference to the activities of rescue, production and multiplication of creole seeds and the use of medicinal plants. The results pointed to the feminist and decolonial character of the agroecological practices within the popular peasant agriculture project of the MMC.
