Ethno-environmental con ict in the framework of the Indigenous Consultation
Abstract
This research aimed to generate a theoretical debate on the strategies developed by investment firms when planning projects in indigenous territory. From a decolonial and political ecology perspective, we investigate the perceptions of the actors involved in the so-called ethno-environmental conflicts -State, entrepreneurs and indigenous communities- against business strategies. We focused on the relationship established between the Chilean State and Mapuche organizations. Indigenous peoples have not only been able to position themselves as a relevant actor within the struggle for the claim of collective rights, but, in particular, in the struggle against investment projects that threaten their way of life, cultural practices and territory.
