The present study aimed to investigate the causes of fluorosis giving primary focus to the presence of fluoride in polivitaminics. Children had been evaluated with fluorosis by collecting data of the former history as the use of fluorides, the use of vitamin supplements, frequency of toohbrushing and ingestion of fluorinated dentifrices. Interviews were made with parents of 50 children who had fluorosis and 50 without fluorosis. Of the children examined 44% had fluorosis grade 2 (as Index of Dean). Of this total, 88% are natural from Presidente Prudente. According to the report of parents, 56% of children with fluorosis made use of polivitaminics, whereas 18% used Kalyamon B12. According to the intake of fluorinated dentifrices was established that 52% do not ingest dentifricies during toohbrushing and that ingest began after 1 year old. We conclude that the intake of products containing fluoride, the use of fluorinated dentifrices and the fluoride present in drinking water, may be leading to consumption above the recommended, being fundamental importance the supervision and guidance of the use of this to minimize the risk of fluorosis. The use of vitamin supplements containing fluoride is linked to the emergence of fluorosis.
