Statistical Education is an area of studies and research that was formed through the search to understand the Statistics’ teaching and learning process. In the Brazilian context in such studies, the development of three competencies, literacy, reasoning and thinking, based on Mathematical Modelling environments, has gained relevance. This article, of a theoretical nature, aims to draw a parallel between the stages of Mathematical Modelling, the elements of thought and the types of statistical reasoning, with the purpose of pointing out what is common in the steps proposed between them and thus contributing with the development of research in the area. The study pointed out that the Mathematical Modeling environment has significant relationships with the types of reasoning and the elements of statistical thinking, which allows us to affirm that this environment can favor the development of these competences.
