Urban parks: an outline of São Paulo and its potentialities for tourism

The intellectual, scientific and technological developments obtained by humanity produced cities under several civilizations and cultures th at transform ed the nature in urban environm ent which have environm ental and social problems. There are open spaces inside urban environment - gardens and parks - that provide the relationship with nature and mitigate environmental impacts of urban process. The review of some concepts was performed in order to verify how open spaces might be explore for tourist approach, besides its im portance in the urban m etabolism and the recreation and leisure of inhabitants. The urban parks studied were: Ibirapuera Park, Botanical Garden of São Paulo, cam pus Água Funda of Astronomy Institute and Zoological Garden of São Paulo
