The article is devoted to the problem of synthesis of architecture and monumental painting on the example of the Holy Trinity Cathedral of Ekaterinburg. The modern frescoes of this church, made on raw plaster in 2002–2011, are a unique phenomenon of regional church art. Using the example of selected images the author considers iconography, coloristic features and stylistic unity, as well as the consistency between the tradition of modern monumental paintings and ancient Russian murals. Oleg Vostretsov, the author of the sketches and leader of the large-scale works, managed to coordinate the wall painting with the architecture of the temple, and to find a balance between the iconographic tradition and its modern interpretation. The article analyzes the system of interrelations of different types of art in the Holy Trinity Cathedral. The role of the stone interior decoration in creating liturgical cathedral space is noted. The author analyzes development of individual style as a form of visual preaching of the Old and New Testaments, which is adequate of the perception of a modern person entering the church as a space of meeting with God.
