THE INVESTIGATION OF THE PRE-SERVICE ELEMANTARY TEACHERS' METAPHORS FOR THE CONCEPT OF HISTORY
Abstract
The purpose of this research is to study the metaphors of pre-service elementary teachers for the concept of history. This analysis has the descriptive model aiming to designate the actual situation. Qualitative research model has been used to gather analyze and interpret the data. This research has been carried out with pre-service elementary teachers from Niğde University Education Faculty during 2011-2012 educational terms. 152 pre-service elementary teachers attended to this research. A form was prepared by researcher to indicate the perceptions of preservice elementary teachers about history notion. The participants were asked to complete the sentence “History is like….. because. . .”. Pre-service elementary teachers not only developed metaphors but also they stated the reason why they used this metaphor. The data have been analyzed qualitatively. The metaphors have been grouped under different conceptual categories.
