Abstract
Prof. N. Subbu Reddiar was a well-writer known for his contribution to Tamil Studies. It is well known that he set foot in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, and pursued Tamil development as his career and started his career as a lecturer in the Department of Tamil at Sri Venkateswara University in 1960 and later as Associate Professor later promoted to Professor and Head of the Department of Tamil. He served for seventeen years and undertook many development projects for the Tamil language and students. Subbu Reddiar made his career in Tamil development and started his career as a lecturer in the Department of Tamil at Sri Venkateswara University in Tirupati. There is a need to know about the background of the University system. In Tirupati, there is a system called University College. It also functions under a Principal. All the departments are under the charge of the Principal. Every two or three years one of the Professors will be the principal on a rotating basis. The professor applauded this method and served so for the purpose. To encourage students to study well, Professor N. Subbu Reddiar after the inception of the Tamil Department, Professor put the name of the great poet Thiruvalluvar to the ‘Gold Medal Committee’ to consider placing a Gold medal on the student who received the first total marks in the MA. Tamil Postgraduate examination and a gold medal on the MA.Tamil student who received the first mark on the literature review paper. He served in such a manner and was revered by the students and appreciated by the Tamil academics and researchers for seventeen years.
