Abstract
Despite the diversity of the current working classes, work remains a constant in their daily lives. Just as it was intrinsically linked to the definition of the classical working class, it is still a defining characteristic of the groups that make up the working classes today. Women's daily lives, in particular, are often structured around a combination of domestic work and formal or informal paid work. The article examines how working-class women produce and mobilise a living space that meets their subsistence needs. The research is based on a 'bottom-up' methodological approach deployed in Charleroi, a deindustrialised Belgian city.
