Population dynamics of Aphis gossypii Glover (Homoptera: Aphididae) in cotton under mineral and rhizobacteria fertilization conditions. The intensive use of chemical fertilizers might lead to soil degradation and promotes the proliferation of sucking insect pests. It is therefore necessary to look for alternative crop fertilization system enabling reduction of such insect pests' proliferation. The rhizobacterium Bacillus amyloliquefaciens is known as bio-fertilizer. The present work aimed at assessing the population dynamics of the aphid Aphis gossypii Glover on cotton based on different fertilization treatments, namely: B. amyloliquefaciens FZB42 and mineral fertilizers (NPKSMgB: 21-17-10-4, 5-3, 5-0,75). Three treatments were tested: soaking cotton seeds in the rhizobacterium suspension, application of mineral fertilizers, and control (no fertilizer). The results showed that the cotton plants fertilized with NPKSMgB attracted significantly more aphids than plants which were fertilized with B. amyloliquefaciens FZB 42. Based on these results and data obtained in other trials in the field that showed a positive effect of the application of B. amyloliquefaciens on cotton yield, one can conclude that the use of this bacterium may be an interesting solution for fertilizing cotton crops.
