Dualité des espaces de travail et nouvelle forme de subordination

Abstract

Based on mobility platforms (such as Uber), the article analyzes the impact of the conditions of organization and operation of work platforms on the driver profession. Particular attention is paid to the triangulation phenomena and informational asymmetry to understand the place and role of digital work in the drivers’ dependent relationship on the platform. At the heart of this system, digital work is the vector of an informational process managed by the platform that allows drivers to be put in contact with a client but also to be the source of a bargaining power that forces them to be permanently available to obtain orders. The result is a singular form of subordination to the platform that strongly alters their status as independent workers.
