6 voices in 10 minutes: Expanding the horizons of education Hypoglycemia prevention in young children Hypoglycemia is a frequent complication in type 1 diabetes treatment. Often predictable, it interferes with day-to-day activities. It is rare for permanent, long term sequels to appear. However, hypoglycemias can potentially be severe. Due to the typical behavior of children of that age, many times it can be difficult to identify the signs and symptoms of hypoglycemia to begin immediate treatment. Education is fundamental to prevent hypoglycemia. It must be addressed to parents, relatives, teachers, professors and caregivers, so that they might recognize the signs and symptoms of hypoglycemia and act rapidly and accordingly.
