Consensual Sex and Abortion Intentions in Students of a Public University in Mexico
Abstract
Sexuality and induced abortion, since the propensity to future approach, are indicators of lifestyles that may be incidental or deliberate, heuristic or planned. In this regard, the objective of this study was to establish predictive relationships of psychosocial factors on intentions to consensual sex. For this purpose, we conducted a cross-sectional correlational study with a nonrandom sample of 132 students at a public university. Normality, reliability and construct validity were established. Then, co-variances between the factors were estimated. Besides, a structural model (X2 = 16.213, 12 df, P = .000, GFI = .918, RMR = .087) was calculated in order to interpret the structure of relations among the factors. Here, the standard was the primary determinant of attitudes and intentions (ß = - .38 and ß = -.28, respectively). The results show the prevalence of an aversion to the past and present as well as a propensity to future, in which intercourse and induced abortion are the result of group nor ms oriented to keep traditions.
