Perspective Directions of Library Service in Sociological Research

Abstract

The article analyses the process of transformation of libraries in the digital era. The importance of theoretical, organizational, technological problems, which objectively occur in the conditions of informatization of society and modernization of functional subsystems of the library is noted. Specific examples highlights system of theoretical and practical work of library professionals in the scientific community and production processes. Examples of systematic studies of a wide range of library and information queries and analysis of their satisfaction substantiates the prospect of the introduction of new information and communication technologies in the library field, based on which new forms and directions of library work are proposed: a variety of electronic resources (databases, EK, DL, etc.), virtual help, virtual exhibitions, on-line advising, e-informing, e-books, remote maintenance and many others. The attention is focused on the need for careful analysis of statistical performance indicators libraries, developing effective strategies for the development of information and library activities with the goal of improving library services and increasing the quality of providing a public request for information.
