YIG with its short name of Yttrium Iron Garnet (Y₃Fe₅O₁₂) is one of the materials that have been working intensively in recent years due to its promising applications in microwave communication systems and magneto-optical devices. Today, YIG thin films are grown on the Gallium- Gadolinium-Garnet substrates with the short name of GGG. However, because the cost of GGG substrate is very high which restricts the production of YIG films economically. Our preliminary studies have shown that it is possible to grow YIG thin film on the quartz substrate. In this study, quartz substrate was used instead of GGG substrate which meets lower cost and expected performance. YIG thin films were grown on quartz substrate by spin-coating method. The surface homogeneity of YIG thin film coated samples produced under suitable production conditions was provided. YIG films grown on quartz substrate were found to be crystallized in a single-phase cubic garnet structure. In addition, Ni doped YIG films were grown similar technique. The magnetic field applied between -5000 Oe and +5000 Oe, magnetization values were measured and hysteresis curves were obtained.
