The paper summarized the characteristics of micro-plastics, inhalable particulate matter, and potentially harmful micro-substances, classified them as micro-pollutants, and analyzed the similar mechanisms, monitoring, prevention and control policies, and cognitive history of micro-pollutants and pollution. Taking the monitoring of marine micro-plastics as an example, the study found that the cognitive stage of marine micro-plastics was at a critical stage between stages 6 and 7. It was suggested to establish micro-pollutant material monitoring research system, carry out micro-pollutant material impact assessment on ecosystem, and establish forward-looking and long-term supporting mechanism.
